Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing operational direction and supervision of the Middlesex House of Correction and Jail by managing daily operations as well as the security, care and control of inmates and detainees in the custody of the MSO.
- Overseeing all operational staff, including but not limited to line operations, the health services unit, transportation, community work program, work release and food services.
- Participating and facilitating weekly and monthly meetings with various department managers.
- Constantly monitoring and evaluating the physical security of the facility.
- Member of the policy review board, responsible for instituting policies and procedures for various aspects of correctional operations.
- Assisting with labor negotiations involving collective bargaining agreements and other impact bargaining as required by law. Will be required to issue discipline when appropriate and assist with any grievance and/or arbitration proceedings.
- Working with Human Resources and Budget Departments to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained and operational needs are met within the confines of fiscal parameters.
- Maintaining custodial care and control of both inmates and detainees; patrol facility; make rounds and take head counts; observe conduct and behavior of inmates, noting significant behavioral patterns; prevent disturbances; note and investigate suspicious inmate behavior, including the possibility of contraband by searching individuals, vehicles, mail, packages, and inmate quarters; ensure that regulations pertaining to the safe and secure transporting of inmates is adhered to; maintain knowledge of firearms, handcuffs and other transporting devices; work with programming staff to develop relationships with inmates by referring individuals to appropriate supportive services, as needed, to aid in rehabilitation; prepare reports relative to fires, disturbances, accidents, security breaches, and monthly evaluations of inmates; account for inmate whereabouts; maintain cleanliness and safety of work area; enforce regulations pertaining to meals, recreation, shakedowns, showers, visits, key control, and inmate movement; assist in the training of new officers; provide supervision of management staff, including regular evaluations and observations with written feedback; member of the Emergency Response Team; participate in disorder management; responsible for enforcing all institutional policies regarding safety and security. Ability to keep accurate records and generate timely reports as required. Perform and/or assist in other duties as required by the Sheriff/Special Sheriff.
Qualifications:
Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor-s Degree, Master-s Degree preferred. Must have fifteen (15) years of management experience in a correctional facility or law enforcement agency. Strong written, managerial and communications skills are required. The candidate must also have strong organizational and time management skills and be able to work under pressure on time sensitive projects. Must have extensive experience in organizing, planning, directing and evaluating correctional facility operations. Candidates shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency. Must be a resident of Massachusetts and a US citizen. Must also have an active valid driver-s license and the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
